AnnonsbildThe Åland Islands Peace Institute offers an opportunity for one or two trainees to experience a dynamic and flexible internship during the spring semester of 2020.

We are looking for applicants interested in issues concerning peace, security, minorities and autonomy. The work assignments include arrangement of seminars, information dissemination and website development. Suitable fields of study background are social, legal or political sciences but also IT, communication and information management. In this year’s call for applications, we also appreciate a background or interest in one or more of the following fields: graphic design, research, conflict management and event management.

The main working languages at the Institute are Swedish and English. At least one of the spring positions requires a good command of the Swedish language. Knowledge of Finnish and other languages are a merit. To be eligible for an internship at the ÅIPI you should have completed at least one year of university studies. Priority will be given to applicants who not yet hold a Master’s degree. The internship period normally lasts 10 weeks, but other time arrangements are possible. The first internship period begins in January and the second in March, or according to agreement.

The internship is unpaid. In most cases it is possible to apply for a €1,500 monthly internship grant from the Åland Labour Market and Student Service Authority (AMS). See the AMS guidelines in Swedish. Applicants are also encouraged to apply for funding from other external sources such as the university, foundations or other sponsoring programs.

Your internship application should include your CV and a short letter of motivation, stating why you are interested in an internship at the ÅIPI and what your skills and areas of interest are. Please also provide relevant information about your institution and/or sponsoring programme. In case you are currently writing your Bachelor’s- or Master’s thesis, please let us know, as there may be a possibility for you to continue working on your thesis during the internship.
