On the 14th of October Alexandra Zhukova from Russia arrived to Åland, where she will be an EVS-volunteer for one year at the Åland Islands Peace Institute. Alexandra will work with information and photographing and will also assist in the various empowerment projects where the peace institute i co-operating with partnber organizations in amongst others the Baltics and Russia. She is particularily interested in the psychological aspects of empowerment work, especially in relation to gender issues and sexuality.
Alexandra has graduated from Saint Petersburg Institute of Psychology and Social Work where she ahs specialized in psychology. After her internship at the ÅIPI she will continue to study for a second higher education at the East European Institute of Psychoanalysis in Saint Petersburg.
Previously she has worked in the State Center for Social Assistance to Families and Children of Kalininsky District in Saint Petersburg as a psychologist. She worked with women in a difficult life situation and with their families. She planned and held trainings for teenagers at schools to prevent delinquent behavior, sexual health and she also taught children to be tolerant. She has also worked as a volunteer in the civil society with HIV+ people and addicts.
Alexandra speaks Russian, English and a little German.
