In a nutshell<\/h5>\r\n\u00c5land is an example of many things: a peaceful solution to a potentially violent conflict, evolving territorial autonomy, a unilingual minority language region in a bilingual country, \u201cIslands of Peace\u201d- demilitarisation and neutralisation, self-governance, red granite, islandness, and a strong regional identity, among others. Throughout the years, the \u00c5land Islands Peace Institute has conducted extensive research into the \u00c5land Example and offers a meeting point for knowledge and dialogue in order to promote better opportunities for peaceful conflict resolution and societal development. Our work and research aspires to put \u00c5land in context through comparative, empirical, and theoretical perspectives. There is strong, international interest in the \u00c5land Example. Individuals and groups visit Finland, \u00c5land, and the \u00c5land Islands Peace Institute in order to learn more about the \u00c5land Example, an example discussed around the world.\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Why \u201can example\u201d and not \u201ca model\u201d?<\/h5>\r\nThe use of the word \u201cexample\u201d is deliberate. \u00c5land is not a model that can be replicated precisely and completely anywhere else. Rather, the \u00c5land Example should serve as a source of inspiration and perhaps, in part, as a conflict-resolution \u201csmorgasbord\u201d. Nevertheless, as with all smorgasbords, it has its core elements. Adequate responses to issues of identity, power-sharing and security are some of the core societal problems addressed by the \u00c5land Example. The \u00c5land Example is not delimited to \u00c5land; it is also a Finnish and a Swedish Example.\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
