{"id":17734,"date":"2010-09-08T10:42:44","date_gmt":"2010-09-08T10:42:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/peace.ax\/2010\/09\/fredsinstitutet-deltog-i-stubb-seminarium-en\/"},"modified":"2010-09-08T10:42:44","modified_gmt":"2010-09-08T10:42:44","slug":"fredsinstitutet-deltog-i-stubb-seminarium-en","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/peace.ax\/en\/fredsinstitutet-deltog-i-stubb-seminarium-en\/","title":{"rendered":"\u00c5IPI contributed to seminar on demilitarization"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Mr Stubb addressed three issues, 1) the development of global politics towards a multipolar but still state-centred system and the demand for &#8220;dignified foreign policy&#8221;, 2) the European Union&#8217;s Common Foreign and Security Policy after the Lisbon Treaty and 3) questions regarding the status of \u00c5land after the Lisbon Treaty, both with regard to the autonomy and the demilitarization and neutralization of \u00c5land. Mr Stubb noted that the Lisbon Treaty doesn&#8217;t affect the special staus of \u00c5land, the relevant conventions are still in force. Ms Susanne Eriksson, Secretary General of the \u00c5land Parliament commented that rather than to speak of a status quo it can be said that the status of \u00c5land has been strenghtened by recent development. Ms Elisabeth Naucl\u00e9r, Member of the Parliament of Finland from \u00c5land, as well as the Director of the \u00c5land Islands Peace Institute Ms. Sia Spiliopoulou \u00c5kermark stressed the possibilities of the Finnish state to consider \u00c5land and its special status as an asset rather than an imposition. Spiliopoulou \u00c5kermark and Anders G\u00e5rdberg, Commander in the Nyland Brigade, outlined the current discussions connected to \u00c5land&#8217;s demilitarization and neutralization. Spiliopoulou \u00c5kermerk brought attention to the increasingly blurring lines between civil and military actvities and the effects on the demilitarization of \u00c5land. In his concluding remark Mr Stubb remarked that he had enhanced his knowledge of \u00c5land during his visit on the Islands and that it is clear that \u00c5land can contribute to a positive branding of Finland.
