Minorities and majorities in Europe<\/a><\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\nWithin ELDIA 14 Finno-Ugric language groups across eight European countries have been studied and compared. The aim is to acquire knowledge as to how minority languages can be strengthened in Europe and globally. The project runs from March 2010 until June 2012 under the guiding role of the University of Mainz and Professor Anneli Sarhimaa<\/strong>. Responsible for disseminating information and results is Professor Johanna Laakso<\/strong>at the University of Vienna. The \u00c5land Islands Peace Institute has role focuses on the legal and institutional dimension of the project. On the occasion of the European Day of Languages on 26 September 2012, the \u00c5land Islands Peace Institute hosted an academic conference entitled \u201cChanging Linguistic Landscapes \u2013 Languages Law and Multilingualism in Context\u201d.<\/p>\n
The conference was part of the interdisciplinary research project European Language Diversity for All (ELDIA) in which the Peace Institutes cooperates with researchers and universities all over Europe with financial support of the European Commission\u2019s 7th<\/sup> Framework Programme for Research.<\/p>\nAt the conference three keynote speakers as well as 16 other researchers presented and discussed their research results. <\/p>\n
