These were some of the main questions at the round table discussion with the title \u201cThe \u00c5land solution\u2019s creation \u2013 contemporary interpretations\u201d,\u00a0 which was arranged by the \u00c5land Islands Peace Institute. The discussion took place in Mariehamn\u2019s city library on 21 March 2012 and was opened by Mats Adamczak followed by the commentaries of Jerker \u00d6rjans, folke Wickstr\u00f6m and Nina Fellman. The Peace Institute\u2019s director Sia Spiliopoulou \u00c5kermark functioned as moderator.<\/p>\n<p>The point of departure for the discussion was that the \u00c5land solution remains important and timely for \u00c5land and globally. Today, it can be considered a contribution to the growth of democracy on \u00c5land, in Finland and the Nordic countries. Important political and legal institutions, such as the autonomy of the \u00c5land Islands, need continuous screening, through new glasses and from different perspectives. New material surfaces from archives and old sources are viewed at again.
