{"id":18929,"date":"2016-04-24T11:06:39","date_gmt":"2016-04-24T11:06:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/peace.ax\/2016\/04\/guest-lectures-and-seminar-during-research-stay-in-uppsala\/"},"modified":"2016-04-24T11:06:39","modified_gmt":"2016-04-24T11:06:39","slug":"guest-lectures-and-seminar-during-research-stay-in-uppsala","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/peace.ax\/en\/guest-lectures-and-seminar-during-research-stay-in-uppsala\/","title":{"rendered":"Guest lectures and seminar during research stay in Uppsala"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>\u00a0On 18 April, Spiliopoulou \u00c5kermark held a guest lecture on &#8220;New forms of civil-military cooperation in the Baltic Sea&#8221;, organized by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.uppsalaforum.uu.se\/?languageId=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Uppsala Forum on Democracy, Peace and Justice <\/a>and <a href=\"http:\/\/www2.statsvet.uu.se\/SIFIR\/tabid\/1046\/language\/sv-SE\/Default.aspx\">the <\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/www2.statsvet.uu.se\/SIFIR\/tabid\/1046\/language\/sv-SE\/Default.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Swedish Institute of International Law.<\/a> Using the demilitarization of \u00c5land as a case study, Spiliopoulou \u00c5kermark argued that enhanced military-civilian cooperation in the Baltic Sea may contribute to the increased blurring between peace and war and modify our understandings of core concepts of international law, such as ideas of territorial sovereignty.<\/p>\n<p>On 26 April she held the \u2028lecture:\u2028&#8221;Education rights of minorities &#8211; how are they implemented today around Europe and in Sweden?&#8221;, where she discussed how the understanding of minority education has evolved in these past twenty years, and what the situation looks like &#8216;on the ground&#8217;, starting off from research results from the project <a href=\"http:\/\/www.eldia-project.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">European Language Diversity for All (ELDIA, 2010-2013),<\/a> presented in the new book &#8220;Towards Openly Multilingual Policies and Practices &#8211; Assessing Language Minority Maintenance Across Europe&#8221; (Multilingual Matters, March 2016).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\" alignleft size-full wp-image-18394\" style=\"margin: 5px; float: left;\" src=\"https:\/\/peace.ax\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/Sia_talar.jpg\" alt=\"Sia talar\" width=\"150\" height=\"200\" \/>During April,\u00a0the Research Director of the \u00c5land Islands Peace Institute, Associate Professor of International Law, Sia Spiliopoulou \u00c5kermark is on a research stay at the Uppsala Centre for Russian and Eurasian Studies and the Faculty of Law. During her stay she is giving two guest lectures, and has also taken part in one seminar.<\/p>\n<p>On 13 April,\u00a0 Spiliopoulou \u00c5kermark was one of the panelists in a seminar on the changing security landscape of Europe, arranged by the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.uppsalaforum.uu.se\/?languageId=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Uppsala Forum on Democracy, Peace and Justice<\/a> at Uppsala university. The two other panelists were Johannes Malminen, security political analyst and manager of the security policy unit at the Swedish Defence Research Agency and Katarina Tracz, director of the think tank Friv\u00e4rld.
