The conference themes touched upon theoretical as well as practical aspects of minority protection and self-government and looked at cases studies from Europe, the Nordic region, Turkey and the Middle East. Dr Spiliopoulou &Aring;kermark spoke on &ldquo;Territorial Autonomy Now and Then&rdquo; reviewing debates and legal instruments on territorial autonomy at the international level in particular at the early 20<sup>th<\/sup> century.<\/p>\n<p>On 27-28 September 2016 Dr Sia Spiliopoulou &Aring;kermark participated in an international conference on &ldquo;Shared Societies&rdquo; organised in Berlin by the Robert Bosch Academy at the initiative of its Richard von Weizs&auml;cker Fellow Mohammad Darawshe, in cooperation with the organization Givat Haviva (Israel).&nbsp; Sia Spiliopoulou &Aring;kermark spoke about the experiences of <em>coping with difference<\/em> in Europe, in particular as understood under the Framework Convention on the Protection of Persons belonging to National Minorities.&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Dr Sia Spiliopoulou &Aring;kermark participated on 15-16 September 2016 in the international conference &ldquo;Minority Rights, Self-Government and the Law&rdquo; organised by the Raoul Wallenberg Institute (Sweden) and the Faculty of Law at Liverpool University (UK).
