On Monday the 29th of March 2021<\/strong>, the \u00c5land Islands Peace Institute will – for the seventh time \u2013 arrange the \u201cKastelholm Talks on Peace\u201d on \u00c5land. The Kastelholm Talks are annual conversations about peace, under the patronage of former President of Finland, Tarja Halonen<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Due to the pandemic, this year\u2019s Kastelholm Talks will be held online and will thereby be available for everyone to take part in \u2013 both locally as well as outside the boarders of \u00c5land. The theme of this year \u2013 \u201cMaking Peace \u2013 Meetings, Mediators and Peace<\/strong>\u201d \u2013 is connected to the 100th<\/sup> anniversary of the \u00c5land Solution and the \u00c5land Example, and to the growing need for the promotion of peace.<\/p>\n

The panel discussion<\/strong> will be held on the 29th<\/sup> of March at 15:00 EET \u2013 online as well as in the foyer of Alandica Culture & Congress Centre in Mariehamn, \u00c5land. The patron of the talks, President Halonen<\/strong>, will discuss this year\u2019s theme with a panel consisting of Jan Eliasson<\/strong>, Swedish ambassador, former Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations and current Chairman of the Board of SIPRI and Bj\u00f6rn Vikstr\u00f6m<\/strong>, Professor of Theology at \u00c5bo Akademi University, former bishop and Chairman of the Board of the Anders Chydenius Foundation. The discussion will be moderated by the Director of the Peace Institute, Sia Spiliopoulou \u00c5kermark. The panel discussion will be subtitled in Swedish and will afterwards be available with English subtitles.<\/p>\n

In March, we will launch \u201dPre-Talks\u201c in the form of podcasts<\/strong>, where Johan Pawli<\/strong>, Chief of Police on \u00c5land and former UN peacekeeper; Susann Simolin<\/strong>, doctoral candidate at \u00c5bo Akademi University and Isak Svensson<\/strong>, Professor at the Department of Peace and Conflict Research at Uppsala University, will be conversing with Kjell-\u00c5ke Nordqvist<\/strong>, Professor in International Relations, and contribute with their insights on this year\u2019s theme. After the panel discussion, there will be a concluding conversation<\/strong> where the podcast-participants \u2013 along with the audience \u2013 will reflect on this year\u2019s panel discussion. The audience can choose to participate digitally or \u2013 depending on the prevailing Covid19-recommendations \u2013 attend in person at the Jubilee-After Work in the foyer of Alandica.<\/p>\n
