Please submit your applications no later than 23 January 2022.<\/p>\n<p>Due to the pandemic, research stays are best scheduled for autumn 2022 when the Peace Institute shall also be celebrating its 30th anniversary. The fellowship is expected to last up to two months.<\/p>\n<p>A Peace Fellowship comprises the following benefits:<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 A collegial atmosphere and the possibility to discuss your research and ideas with the Institute\u2019s staff and networks<br \/>\n\u2022 Working space and access to our small but specialized library<br \/>\n\u2022 The possibility to present your work at a public seminar<br \/>\n\u2022 The possibility to partake at seminars and events organised by the Peace Institute<br \/>\n\u2022 A return ticket (economy) from your place of residence to Mariehamn<br \/>\n\u2022 A monthly stipend of 1200 euro<br \/>\n\u2022 Accommodation in Mariehamn in a single room apartment or guesthouse, alternatively assistance in finding appropriate accommodation<br \/>\n\u2022 The possibility to conduct research accessing key sources on the \u00c5land Islands<br \/>\n\u2022 The possibility to publish your work as part of our online open-access report series \u201cReport from the \u00c5land Islands Peace Institute\u201d or the Journal on Autonomy and Security Studies www.jass.ax<br \/>\n\u2022 The possibility to attend a coming E-course \u201cTerritorial Autonomy as a Tool for Diversity Management \u2013 Lessons from the \u00c5land Example\u201d free of registration fee.<\/p>\n<p>Your application is to include:<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 a letter of motivation, including full contact details and explaining how a stay in the \u00c5land Islands and the Peace Institute could contribute to your work and how you can contribute to the work of the Institute<br \/>\n\u2022 a short outline (max 1.500 words) of the work you intend to undertake as a fellow at the Institute (including topic, relevance and methodology)<br \/>\n\u2022 a brief CV (max 2 pages)<br \/>\n\u2022 a recent writing sample (e.g. article, report, thesis).<\/p>\n<p>A good command of either English or Swedish\/Scandinavian is a prerequisite for being able to fully benefit from the fellowship.<\/p>\n<p>An \u00c5land Peace Fellow is expected to work on a theme relevant to the Institute\u2019s areas of priority and Research Plan. A key selection criterion is overlapping research interests and the potential for a mutually beneficial research visit. The ability to combine research and practical societal engagement for peace is considered an asset. We welcome applications from all parts of the world, in particular from regions with experiences of issues of territorial autonomy, minorities or conflict. Applicants from a minority or indigenous background and islands are especially encouraged to apply. Applicants must be enrolled in a PhD programme, as a minimum.<\/p>\n<p>Applications shall be assessed by the Research Council of the \u00c5land Islands Peace Institute on the basis of research quality and topical relevance. The selection process is expected to take ca two months.<\/p>\n<p>The \u00c5land Islands Peace Institute was founded in 1992. It is an independent foundation situated in Mariehamn (\u00c5land). At the Institute we work both practically and with research on peace and conflict issues in a broadly defined manner and from the vantage point of the special status that \u00c5land enjoys under international law.
