An important meeting of the Council of the League of Nations took place on 24 June 1921. The \u00c5land question had been discussed several times before, but today, 102 years ago, the Council decided that \u00c5land would belong to Finland with special guarantees of autonomy, language, land ownership, voting rights and the appointment of a governor, as well as with a broad agreement on the non-fortification and neutralisation of the islands.
\nThe member states of the League of Nations, including Finland and Sweden, took the decision with a view to world peace, the future good relations between Finland and Sweden and the welfare and happiness of the islands.<\/p>\n
