In 2025, the \u00c5land Islands Peace Institute will conduct a feasibility study that examines how \u00c5land’s demilitarization and neutralization have been debated and portrayed in the media during the years 2022-2024. This study forms the basis for a future larger research application.<\/p>\n
We are looking for you who want to conduct a media analysis within the framework of this feasibility study. The assignment involves analyzing how \u00c5land’s demilitarization has been treated in both Swedish-speaking and Finnish-speaking media in Finland. The work will result in a written report with possible graphic visualizations and will be presented at a workshop in \u00c5land in November 2025.<\/p>\n
Who are you?<\/strong><\/p>\n We think you are:<\/p>\n Master’s or post-master’s student in political science, media and communication studies, journalism or a similar subject. How can the assignment be carried out?<\/strong><\/p>\n As an internship or as part of your master’s thesis (2-3 months full-time internship).
\nInterested in security policy, \u00c5land, the Nordic region and media.
\nUsed to working independently and preferably have experience of media analysis – perhaps from a bachelor thesis or previous project.
\nComfortable with reading and analyzing texts in both Swedish and Finnish.<\/p>\n
\nAs an assignment for a small fee – ideal for recent graduates who want to gain experience as a research assistant.
\nFlexible approach: the work is part-time during the year and can be carried out remotely, with at least one visit to \u00c5land in November for the workshop.<\/p>\n
