He has previously served as Ambassador and Director-General for Political Affairs at the Swedish Ministry for Foreign Affairs, as well as Head of Sweden\u2019s UN delegation in New York and Ambassador to countries including Finland and Israel. With academic studies in history and political science, Lid\u00e9n has accumulated extensive expertise in Middle Eastern affairs, peace negotiations, and the workings of the UN Security Council.<\/p>\n<p>In 2023, he was appointed by the Swedish government as Chair of the Truth Commission for the Sami People. He has also served as a board member of the \u00c5land Islands Peace Institute, where he has already contributed valuable insights and experience.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is a great honor to serve as Senior Advisor to the \u00c5land Islands Peace Institute. With my background in diplomacy and international politics, I hope to contribute to the Institute\u2019s important work for peace, with a particular focus on promoting knowledge about autonomy and the rights of minorities,\u201d says Anders Lid\u00e9n.<\/p>\n<p>Institute Director Susann Simolin adds: \u201cWe\u2019ve had the privilege of having Anders Lid\u00e9n as a board member, and when he chose to step down from that role, we were eager to maintain the connection. Anders has diplomatic experience both globally and closer to home \u2013 for example within the UN and as Ambassador to Israel and Finland. He also holds a PhD and combines insights from global and local levels, from research and practice, in a remarkably thoughtful and wise way.
