Senior researcher Pertti Joenniemi was appointed the Peace Institute’s first adviser in 2013. He’s a Phil. Dr. and active in Karjalan tutkimuslaitos, University of Eastern Finland. He has previously worked for the Tampere Peace Research Institute (TAPRI) and the Copenhagen Peace Research Institute (COPRI) in Denmark. During the 1980s, Pertti Joenniemi was involved in the discussions about starting a peace institute on Åland and supported the idea of an institute on Åland. He was also a member of the Peace Institute’s very first research council.
