The Kastelholm Talks are recurring talks on the topic of peace, under the patronage of former President of Finland, Tarja Halonen. The talks are always held in association with Åland’s Demilitarization Day, the 30th March.
Through the Kastelholm Talks, the Åland Islands Peace Institute seeks to highlight a peace perspective by identifying and discussing solutions and opportunities for peaceful coexistence. The Kastelholm Talks aims to contribute to public education and knowledge development by being a forum for dialogue, rather than debate.
The Kastelholm Talks on Peace was held on 30th of March 2022
with the theme:
“Breakthrough or Breakdown?
About Building Trust and Enhancing Disarment Today”
Firstly, a panel discussion was held at the Kastelholm castle with this year’s panelists Stefan Löfven, Tarja Cronberg and Mikael Wigell. The panel discussion can be seen afterwards at the institute’s YouTube channel.
Afterwards, the dialogue was deepened and developed at a roundtable discussion at Alandica in Mariehamn. Benjamin Ulbricht, priest and chairman of the board at Gotlands fredscenter along with Vendela Englund Burnett, doctor and chairwoman of the board of Swedish Doctors Against Nuclear Weapon discussed and reflected on this year’s theme with the panel from the castle and the audience.
