This project was launched in autumn 2024 and concluded in August 2025. The project aimed to revive knowledge exchange and networking between Nordic actors in various types of restorative justice (RJ) and practices, such as mediation.

The main questions addressed in the project were as follows:

How is RJ organised in each country?
What RJ services are available – public services, non-governmental organisations, other RJ-related services or activities?
What are the experiences and research findings?
What are the opportunities and challenges for RJ in each country?
The main part of the project consisted of an expert seminar including a workshop held in Åland on 12-14 May 2025. The results of the expert seminar have been summarised in a publication in the Nordic Council of Ministers’ TemaNord series, see Restorative Justice and Practice in the Nordic Region 

The RJNord network continues its contacts and activities. The next seminar is tentatively planned to be held in Denmark in 2027. The target group is people active in RJ as practitioners, academics, civil servants and decision-makers.

RJNord 2025 has been led by the Åland Peace Institute (Åland, Finland) with a steering group of representatives from the Institute for Health and Welfare Finland, the Ministry of Justice Finland, Åbo Akademi University Finland, the Conflict Council Norway and the Association for Restorative Justice and Practice in Denmark. The project is funded by the Nordic Council of Ministers with additional support from the Finnish section of the Nordic Administrative Union (NAF).
