On the 19th of June 2012 the Permanent mission of Finland and the Geneva Centre for Security Policy (GCSP) did arrange the International Symposium: “Ninety years after the Åland Islands Settlement – Challenges and Prospects for Peace Mediation” in Geneva.
The symposium aimed to offer an opportunity to explore whether some of the elements of Åland Island Settlement may still serve as a source of inspiration for other conflicts, and in general how the United Nations can develop new approaches to respond to, and help settle, contemporary disputes and conflicts.
The Minister of Foreign Affais of Finland, Mr Erkki Tuomioja was the key note speaker. The Director of the ÅIPI, Ass. Prof. Sia Spiliopoulou Åkermark participated in the panel discussion.
