28 young women from four countries will meet on Åland between 17th and 22 August 2009 to discuss issues of peace, conflict and gender equality. The participants come from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Sweden and Finland including Åland. During the meeting interactive lectures and discussions on peace, conflict and gender issues will be held. External resource persons with expertise in those matters will be assisting. among them are Mr Kjell-Åke Nordquist, associate proferror in peace and conflict resolution at Uppsala University, journalist and researcher Ms Salla Nazarenko, gender equality consultant Ms Mia Hanström and the representative of Åland in the Finnish Parliament, MP Ms Elisabeth Nauclér.
The 28 participants will stay at Lemböte lägergård during the week. They will also visit the fortress of Bomarsund and the museum ship Pommern, to get aquainted with Åland and it’s history.
The meeting is arranged by The Åland Islands Peace Institute and financed by the EU Youth in Action Programme.
