On Sunday 11th of January the Peace Institute together with Åland Peace Association, Amnesty Åland and the Parish of Mariehamn will arrange a torchlight procession and a candle light manifestation to promote peace in the Middle East.
The program of the manifestation starts with a torchlight procession from the library of Mariehamn at 17.30. From 18.00 there will be music, poetry reading, light ceremony and speeches in the Church of St Göran.
The Peace Institute wishes to highlight in particular the importance of the laws of war being adhered to. The bombings of civilians in the Gaza strip must cease immediately and the humanitarian sitution needs to be be handled urgently.
