The Åland Islands Peace Institute is celebrating its 30th anniversary this autumn with an exhibition by foreign correspondent and photographer Rauli Virtanen, who has photographed many world events during his long career. Virtanen has been to Afghanistan several times, the first time in 1980.
The exhibition is on display at the Åland Museum of Cultural History 24.9 – 6.11.2022
Programme during the exhibition:
Saturday 24.9 at 2 pm: Opening of the exhibition, Rauli Virtanen will participate. Free admission. Pre-register at the museum.
Sunday 25.9 at 2 pm: Guided tour. Rauli Virtanen talks about the photographs. Entrance fee. Pre-register at the museum.
Tuesday 27.9 at 4-5 pm: “Media, War and Peace”
Panel discussion with Rauli Virtanen (photographer and journalist), Klaus Ilmonen (doctor of law, corporate law attorney, formerly deployed with Finnish forces in in Afghanistan, Lebanon and other countries) and Ralph Wilde (doctor and academic in international law, expert on territorial administration and researcher). The discussion will be held in English but questions can also be asked in Swedish. Moderator: Nina Fellman.

Tuesday 27 September, 5-6.30 pm: Reception in the museum lobby to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Åland Islands Peace Institute. A warm welcome! Free admission.
