With Folkhälsan as the core organizer, the Åland Islands Peace Institute, Save the Children, and the Department for Education at the local government are cooperating in order to promote ‘Peace in Schools’. ‘Peace in Schools’ is intended to highlight how important it is that everyone involved in school life work together for a humane educational environment.
Every year ‘‘Peace in Schools’ is proclaimed on Åland. In 2011 this was done on the 8th of September on the main square in Mariehamn. Pupils from 4th and 9th grades in Åland’s schools participated. Throughout the school year activities related to the theme of School Peace 2011-2012 – respect – will be emphasized.
