During October 2012 two new volunteers arrived to the Ålands Islands Peace Institute. They will be staying on Åland during a year within the framework of the EU-programme European Volontary Service.
Gohar Mamikonyan from Armenia will be a volunteer at the ÅIPI from 01.10.2012 to 01.10.2013. She will mainly work in the framework of a gender equality project, help to develop further projects in cooperation with Armenian organizations, also be involved in the whole scale of Peace Institute activities. Gohar received her master in Political science and Public Administration from Yerevan State University. She speaks Armenian, Russian and English.
Gulnar Mammadova is a volunteer from Azerbaijan. She will work in the international cooperation projects with focus on gender equality, empowerment of young women, and youth exchanges from conflict regions. She will also be involved in planning of new projects and will assist in overall activities of the ÅIPI.
Previously she has worked in the Center for Strategic Studies of Azerbaijan where she made research on Arab uprising in Egypt, Libya, Yemen and Syria and its impact on the Arab countries of the Gulf. Her current research interests in ÅIPI include Åland Islands’ experience of conflict resolution and autonomy, in relation to the Armenian-Azerbaijan, Nagorny Karabakh conflict. She received her master’s degree in international relations from Baku State University in 2010. She speaks Azerbaijani (native), English and Russian, little Arabic and French.
