The 2022 Åland Peace Fellow, Dr Ralph Wilde, Associate Professor delivered the Åland Peace Lecture on “Human Rights in Occupied Territories” on 24th of October, UN Day and also 30th birthday of the Åland Islands Peace Institute. You can find a recording of the lecture here: https://youtu.be/B81wDxXniAo (after brief introduction in Swedish).
During his time at the Institute, Dr Wilde also prepared a Legal Opinion on the question of whether the Israeli occupation of the Palestinian territories is ‘lawful’ or ‘unlawful’ in international law. This was based on his prior publications on the subject, notably his article in the Palestine Yearbook of International Law, and related Policy Brief, as well as the work he conducted at the Institute, and presented in the Peace Lecture, on the subject of human rights in occupied territories. It was in anticipation of a request by the United Nations General Assembly to the International Court of Justice, for an Advisory Opinion on the subject, which was expected in December 2022.
