Open position as project manager
The Åland Islands Peace Institute is currently looking for a full time project manager, from the end of 2010 until the end of 2011 for the EU-financed project Challenging Gender Roles for Prevention of Trafficking. Experience in project management, knowledge of gender issues and good knowledge of Egnlish are essential. The Åland Islands Peace Institute conducts projects and research into peace and conflict issues in a broadly defined sense from the vantage-point of Åland and the special status that Åland enjoys under international law. It focuses on autonomy in various forms, minority-related issues, demilitarisation and conflict management. The Institute is a member of several national and international networks of organisations working on closely related issues. The Institute was founded in 1992 as an independent charitable foundation. Since October 2009 the Åland Islands Peace Institute is the lead partner of a INTERREG IV A project entitled “Challenging Gender Stereotypes for Prevention of Trafficking “. The project is implemented in close partnership with Riga-based Resource Center for Women “Marta” for implementing the unique Nordic Girl and Boy Group method, informing the wider audience about the importance of linking empowerment, gender equality and gender based crime, and scientifically researching the outcome. Seminar on prevention of genocide
On Saturday 30th of October 2010 the Åland Islands Peace Institute and UNIFEM Finland arranged a lecture on how to prevent genocide, in the city library of Mariehamn, on Åland. The lecture was given by Helena Ranta, professor at Helsinki University and chairperson of UNIFEM Finland. Helena Ranta’s Power Point presentation you can download here (in Swedish).
Seminar on the right of linguistic minorities to recieve education in and of their own language
On Thursday 21st of October 2010, the Åland Islands Peace Institute and the Multicultural society of Åland will arrange a seminar on the right of linguistic minorities to recieve education in and of their own language at the city library in Mariehamn, Åland. The seminar, that is held in Swedish, will start at 3 p.m.Key note speaker is Mr Kristian Myntti, researcher at the Law department of Åbo Akademi University. A report on the same topic, written by Mr Myntti, was recently published by the ÅIPI. At the seminar Ms Ingrid Iremark, general consul of Sweden on Åland, will compare Finnish and Swedish jurisdiction in the area of minority education. Mr Jouko Kinnunen participate in a discussion about the situation of linguistic minorities on Åland.
