THE ÅLAND EXAMPLE
JASS

We are pleased to announce that we have been awarded a grant by the Åland Cultural Foundation to conduct a study for a forthcoming research project on the demilitarization of Åland. We will map recent events related to Finland’s NATO accession and analyze media debates on demilitarization. We will also gather information on ongoing research, and identify knowledge gaps and needs.

At the Peace Institute, we are often asked about the link between demilitarization and current security issues. By keeping up to date and doing analysis, we help both ourselves and society at large to understand and navigate the debates.

The project planning is in full swing and the research work will start next year. Many thanks to the Åland Cultural Foundation!
