Sia Spiliopoulou Åkermark, Director of the Peace Institute, is appointed Professor of Law at Åbo Akademi University, specialising in self-government and autonomy. She starts her new position initially on a part-time basis from November 2023.
– It is a great honor to once again work at Åbo Akademi University and great to continue working in an area of law that interests me a lot. I have worked at the Peace Institute for 17 years and have had a long-standing co-operation with the Institute for much longer than that. My new position in Turku provides new opportunities both for Åland and for the Peace Institute. Peace issues and the importance of international law today are crucial today, says Sia.
Chairman of the Peace Institute Roger Nordlund’s comment is:
– Sia has made a huge contribution over many years and the Peace Institute is a great resource for Åland. It will be a difficult challenge for the Peace Institute, but there is also a need for more knowledge in the rest of Finland and beyond about peace solutions including Åland and other autonomies, which Sia can now contribute with.
The board will hereby discuss different recruitment options.
– Fortunately, we have relatively good time to ensure a smooth transition until Sia will be full-time in Åbo/Turku in May 2024.
