In early September, Finland’s marine will host the multinational crisis management exercise Northern Coasts 2014 (NOCO), in the surrounding area of Åland. This means that the status of Åland as a demilitarized and neutralized zone is again brought to the fore.
The Director of the Åland Islands Peace Institute Dr. Sia Spiliopoulou Åkermark has written an op-ed on this topic that has been published in local newspapers Nya Åland and Tidningen Åland 1.8.2014.
