The researchers and scientific advisors of the research project ”Demilitarisation in an increasingly militarised world” met in Mariehamn on March 31, 2016. Before this meeting, two of the project experts, professor Said Mahmoudi (Stockholm University) and Director Timo Koivurova (Arctic center, Rovaniemi) had participated as speakers in the Kastelholm Peace Talks 2016 and the round table discussion that followed. The theme of the Kastelholm Peace Talks this year was ”A sustainable peace around the Baltic Sea – new times, new issues”.
During the research project meeting the experts discussed the structure and goals of the project as well as draft manuscripts by the project researchers.
The three year long research project ”Demilitarisation in an increasingly militarised world” (2015-2018) is funded by the Kone foundation. The project is a cooperative effort between the Åland Islands Peace Institute and the Arctic Center in Rovaniemi. Read more about the project here.
