We are used to seeing justice as something delivered by a judge in court. The punitive justice system primarily aims to restore justice in relation to the state and the law. The restorative justice is a complementary system to manage conflicts or criminal cases and puts the parties first. The restorative justice theory underpines different types of mediation.
Pia Slögs (LLB and MA restorative justice) is Secretary-General at Finnish Forum for Mediation’s International Program and has 20 years of experience in mediation.
