Departures with Air Åland from Stockholm-Arlanda airport to Mariehamn twice a day on weekdays, either at 9.10 or 19.30. The flight time is about half an hour. By ferry
If you plan to go to Åland during the weekend the only way is to go by ferry, either from Stockholm or Kapellskär depending on which ferry line you decide to go with. Note that if you decide to go to with the ferry from Långnäs you have to count with a approx. 2 hour bus ride from Stockholm City Station but the ferry lasts for 2,5 hours, while on contrary the ferry from Stockholm lasts for about 4 to 6 hours depending on departure but the bus ride is only 15 minutes. On the website you can choose the departure that suites you the best and find the direct link to the companies’ websites where you can book your ticket. It is also preferable that you go with a ferry that takes you straight to Mariehamn if possible instead of going via Eckerö or Långnäs.
For connecting transport to the ferries from the airport you first have to go to Stockholms City Station (Cityterminalen) from where the buses leave. The fastest and the easiest way to get from the airport to the City Station is with the Arlanda Express train that take you from the airport to the City Station in 20 minutes. Arlanda Express is easy to find from the arrivals hall and you only have to follow the signs. There is also a bus transfer that takes you from the airport to the City Station in about 40 minutes. At the City Station there are both Viking Line and Silja Line offices where you can purchase your bus ticket to the harbor if you haven’t purchased it together with the ferry ticket.

From Helsinki-Vantaa airport there are departures to Mariehamn every day, on Wednesdays and Thursdays there are up to four departures each day while on Saturdays there is usually only one departure. When arriving to Mariehamn airport the easiest way to get to Mariehamn is by taxi which takes about 5-10 minutes.
By ferry
From Finland you can either choose to go with the ferry from Helsinki or Turku. The ferry from Helsinki lasts for about 11-12 hours and the ferry from Turku lasts 5,5 hours. From Helsinki there is only one departure per day in the afternoon and the arrival time is 04.15/04.25 to Mariehamn depending on ferry line. The departure times from Turku may be more comfortable and there are two departures per day, one in the morning and one in the evening. If you choose to go with the ferry from Helsinki you can easily get to the harbor by bus from the airport, where you can purchase the bus ticket at the Matkahuolto office. If you decide to depart from Turku the easiest way to get there is to take an express bus from Helsinki-Vantaa airport that takes you straight to the harbor. The bus ride is about 2,5 hours and you can purchase your bus ticket at the Matkahuolto office at the airport.
