We are seeking two trainees

Are you interested in issues concerning peace, minorities, autonomy and non-violent solutions? Then you can now apply for an internship at the Åland Island Peace Institute. The call is for two internships, one in the autumn of 2023 and one in spring 2024.

Your field of study can preferably be social science subjects and/or IT, communication, and information management.

The internships offered are as follows:

  1. Research trainee: Assist with and participate in the E-course ”Territorial Autonomy as a Resource for Diversity and Conflict Resolution – lessons with the Åland Example as a point of departure”. Help in the editing and proofreading of texts within the Peace Institutes areas of interest. Assist in the planning and implementation of events such as lunch seminars and the Åland Peace Fellow lecture. Internship period preferably 10 weeks, September – December of 2023.
  2. Event and Information trainee: Assist in the planning and implementation of various forms of events, primarily the Kastelholm talks for Peace (held in March) and lunch seminars. Duties include event organization as well as planning and implementing different marketing efforts. Internship period preferably 10 weeks, February – April 2024.

The working languages at the institute are Swedish and English, knowledge of Finnish and other languages is a merit. To be eligible for an internship you should have completed at least one year of university studies. Priority will be given to applicants who do not yet hold a Master’s degree. The internship period normally lasts 10 weeks, but other time arrangements are possible.

The internship is unpaid. In many cases it is possible to apply for a monthly internship grant from the Åland Labour Market and Student Service Authority (AMS). See the AMS guidelines in Swedish. Applicants are also encouraged to apply for funding from other external sources such as their university, foundations or other sponsoring programs.

Your internship application should include your CV and a short letter of motivation, stating why you are interested in an internship at the Åland Islands Peace Institute and what your skills and areas of interest are. Please also provide relevant information about your institution and/or sponsoring programme. In case you are currently writing your Bachelor’s- or Master’s thesis, please let us know, as there may be a possibility for you to continue working on your thesis during the internship. Please indicate for which internship you would like to be considered.

Send your application to praktik@peace.ax no later than June 1st 2023. Interviews are planned for the first part of June.

We look forward to receiving your application!
