Seminars and events

The Åland Islands Peace Institute wishes to disseminate its research results as well as the insights and experiences gained in its practical activities with the aim to increase awareness about peaceful solutions and to promote methods which can assist individuals in maintaining peaceful relationships in their everyday lives. The ÅIPI also strives to influence the development of society towards peace by expanding the discourse on how peace is created and maintained in our communities, locally, regionally and internationally. The Åland Islands Peace Institute organizes seminars, conferences, lectures and discussions on current issues within its areas of interest, both, for local and international target groups, on Åland and abroad. Some of these activities are organized in co-operation with other institutions. The Institute’s researchers and staff also participate upon invitation as external experts in seminars and events organized by other actors. Would you like to invite a speaker from the Institute be so kind to contact peace(a)peace.ax or the member of staff you wish to invite directly.

Experiences from Living Bridges

The “Living bridges” training project was based upon three cornerstones: feminism, intercultural dialogue and conflict resolution. Young women from Sweden and Finland (mainland and Åland) and Azerbaijan and Armenia came together on the Åland Islands between the 17th and the 22nd of August 2009 to discuss these issues in the light of the Åland example. Sarah Stephan, who was the project manager of this event has now summarized the main experiences from the project. Her article can be downloaded (in pfd) here.
