Seminar in Helsinki on the Åland Example
In the morning of the 10th of April 2012 the seminar ”The Prospects of the Åland Example as a tool of Nordic Peace Mediation – Tackling Identity Conflicts, Autonomy and Minority Rights” will be held at the Parliament Annex Auditorium in Helsinki. The seminar is arranged by the Åland Islands Peace Institute and the Finnish Institute of International Affairs, with the support of the Constitutional law Committee of the Parliament of Finland. The keynote speaker is Mr Erkki Tuomioja, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Finland. Speakers include: Johannes Koskinen, Chair of the Constitutional Law Committee, Parliament of Finland, Britt Lundberg, Speaker of the Åland Parliament, Dr. Kristine Höglund, Associate Professor Department of Peace and Conflict Research, Uppsala University Peace and Conflict Research, Ambassador Kai Eide, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Norway, Dr. Sia Spiliopoulou Åkermark, Associate Professor, Director of The Åland Islands Peace Institute and Elisabeth Nauclér, Member of the Parliament of Finland, representing Åland Islands. Debate on the demilitarisation
On the 27th of March, in advance of the Åland demilitarisation day on the 30th, the Bomarsund society will arrange a debate about the demilitatisation, at the Åland museum at 6.30 p.m. The director of the Åland Islands Peace Institute Dr. Sia Spiliopoulou Åkermark will participate to talk about current challenges for the demilitarisation regime. The debate will be held in Swedish.
