Meet Johan Pawli – our first podcast guest
In episode 1 of the Peace Institute’s new podcast series Johan Pawli, current Chief of Police on the Åland Islands and former member of the UN peacekeeping forces, discusses with Professor Kjell-Åke Nordqvist about the theme of this year’s Kastelholm Talks: “Making Peace – Meetings, Mediators and Peace”. The podcast is held in Swedish, and our intern – Esther Djupsund – has written a summary in English: The podcast begins with some opening discussions related to the international work that Pawli has done during his time at the UN Peacekeeping troops. One thing that Pawli emphasizes as important in all states, is the collaboration between different institutions and functions. The institutions must collaborate and support each other to be able to go forward and build peace and give the people hope for the future. The majority of conflicts today are internal ones, and the discussion brought up issues concerning the role of peacekeepers and police in internal conflicts. New Podcast Series ahead of the Kastelholm Talks on Peace 2021
The Åland Islands Peace Institute proudly presents the new podcast series ahead of Kastelholm Talks on Peace 2021. The podcast series releases one episode a week, ahead of the panel discussion which will be held on the 29th of March at 15:00 EEST – online on Facebook and YouTube. The patron of the talks, President Halonen, will discuss this year’s theme with a panel consisting of Jan Eliasson, Swedish ambassador, former Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations and current Chairman of the Board of SIPRI and Björn Vikström, Professor of Theology at Åbo Akademi University, former bishop and Chairman of the Board of the Anders Chydenius Foundation. The discussion will be moderated by the Director of the Peace Institute, Sia Spiliopoulou Åkermark. The panel discussion will be subtitled in Swedish and will afterwards be available with English subtitles. In the podcast series, invited guests discuss with Professor Kjell-Åke Nordquist and give their perspective on the theme of 2021: “Making Peace – Meetings, Mediators, and Peace”.
