The publication contextualises the demilitarised experience while also putting emphasis on the importance of the Åland Islands demilitarisation and neutralisation. The authours of the publication; Sia Spiliopoulou Åkermark, Saila Heinikoski and Pirjo Kleemola-Juntunen are all involved in different scientific fields, which makes the chapters very interesting since they all bring up different aspects of the situation. The book studies the demilitarisation of Åland which have been used as a measurement to limit war in the Baltic Sea region. The historical background and the shaping of the demilitarization of the Åland Islands is discussed, but the reader also receives a view of more recent security co-operations that Åland has had and still has.
