The author uses the so called Fuzzy-set method for analyzing the autonomies, which is a mix between qualitative and quantitative approaches. This method creates a more creative alternative to the more conventional methods used in political science. The book is aimed at everyone interested in questions on autonomy and particularly the ones with interest in methodological issues in comparative politics. Internationally, Åland’s right of domicile is a unique legal institution. Surprisingly little has been written and documented about the establishment, application and development of the right of domicile on Åland. A research seminar on Åland’s right of domicile was held in connection with the Åland Days in Helsinki in June 2007. The seminar was arranged by the Åland parliament in collaboration with the Åland Islands Peace Institute and the Centre for Nordic Studies at the Renvall Institute in Helsinki. Christer Ahlström Demilitarised and Neutralised Territories in Europe 952-5265-13-7 (English), 2004. 20,00 euro + postage “This book identifies geographic areas in Europe which through international law is, or have been previously, demilitarized and/or neutralized. The concepts of demilitarization and neutralization is both analyzed in the publication. After the analysis of the concepts, the book does a review of geographical areas which is or have been demilitarized or neutralized. The study deals with European relations. The majority of the available source material consists of peace agreements, although some comprehensive studies have also been included. The academic interest for demilitarization and neutralization has declined after the second World War. Although a certain important exception is status of the Åland Islands, including its autonomy, in international law which in a Nordic perspective has attracted a relatively extensive interest. The book also contains a theoretical discussion on demilitarization and neutralization. Christer Ahlström (JD) is the Deputy Director at Stockholm International Peace Research Institute, SIPRI.
