New report out now – by Sia Spiliopoulou Åkermark
There is a new interesting report to read in our publications database “International guarantees for territorial autonomies. Legal mechanism, global considerations and the Åland Islands”. It is by Sia Spiliopoulou Åkermark, former Director of the Åland Islands Peace Institute and now Professor of Law specialising in self-government and autonomy at Åbo Akademi University, who has examined the historical experience of legal mechanisms for dealing with disputes between autonomous regions and states. In the report, Sia Spiliopoulou Åkermark has analysed the ‘frozen guarantees’ given to Åland and presents current research directions, initiatives and approaches to study the role of law and dispute resolution in territorial autonomy arrangements. She also comments on the existing dispute resolution and monitoring mechanisms and their possibilities and limitations. You can download the report free of charge here. It is written in English but has a summary in Swedish.
