This publication deals with Åland’s autonomy, both the historical background of it and the current situation. The publication gives the reader a view of how the different historical events eventually led to the autonomy of Åland, at the same time as it gives a view of Åland’s position today as well as the politics on Åland. Some of the challenges that Åland is facing, connected to the demilitarization, is also discussed in the publication. Concerning politics on Åland, the Government of Åland is discussed as well as the international cooperations that Åland has with institutions such as the Nordic Council and the European Union.
