This year’s Kastelholm Talks on Peace will be on the 27 of March 2025.
The Kastelholm Talks are recurring talks on the topic of peace, under the patronage of former President of Finland, Tarja Halonen. The talks are always held in association with Åland’s Demilitarization Day, the 30th March.
Through the Kastelholm Talks, the Åland Islands Peace Institute seeks to highlight a peace perspective by identifying and discussing solutions and opportunities for peaceful coexistence.
This year´s theme is:
“Diplomacy in our time – spaces, places and faces”.
This year´s speakers: Minna Kukkonen-Karlander, Anders Lidén and Annika Söder.
The Kastelholm Talks are open to everyone to take part in – both on-site and online. The castle is now full, but you are welcome to watch the castle talk online here on the website at 14.15 EEST on 27 March. The after-talk at Mariehamn City Library is open to everyone – free admission and no pre-registration is required.

Do you want to learn more about Åland’s peaceful history? Join a guided tour in Mariehamn! Tove Waller will guide a walk through Mariehamn on two occasions. The first occasion is Wednesday March 26 at 17.15-18.30 and the second is Sunday March 30 at 9-10.45. The start is at Mariero, the garden next to Nygatan 8. No registration needed!
We are collaborating with Mariehamn Literature Days. Their program runs all weekend, so if you want to extend your stay, there are a number of interesting lectures, seminars and discussions in Mariehamn City Library to take part in.
